When: Every Monday – 7:00-8:30PM We will meet September 21 through June 7, following the school calendar. If school does not meet on a Monday holiday, that means we will have the night off.

Where: The Olympia Center
222 Columbia Street, Olympia. We will have different rooms throughout the year, so please check the sign in the lobby for our location each night.

What: We call it the Open Strings Project because chamber music is just the beginning. Throughout the season, we’ll explore lots of music written for small string ensembles, while also digging into meaningful topics and real-world skills for musicians.

No music purchases required! Julie will provide all sheet music.

We kicked off the season by talking about our goals, ideas, and dreams for the year—and turned all of that into a list of things we’re excited to explore together:

• Leadership and collaboration
• Audition preparation
• Playing gigs and performing outside the concert hall
• Community outreach and service concerts
• Mentoring younger musicians
• Music theory
• Music history and culture
• And pretty much anything else that’s worth exploring together as a group of music-loving friends

Season String Projects

One of the perks of being a full-season Open Strings member is that our seasonal string projects are included in your tuition! Throughout the year, members will have opportunities to participate in special programs like:

Spooktober Strings • Christmas Strings • Valentine Strings • Spring Strings —These are opportunities for us to play in our community, such as the Tumwater Craft District, Avanti Haunted School, senior living and assisted living facilities, parks, and more!

But there’s a little more to it than simply performing. As part of our mentor training and real-world music experience, Open Strings players are expected to serve as mentors for one rehearsal and one performance for each seasonal event.

It’s a great opportunity to build leadership skills, gain experience working with younger musicians, and give back to the music community. Community service hours are available for this mentoring work.
